Plasti Dip 2000 V6 Mustang Side Scoops and Front Grill.

Plasti Dip 2000 V6 Mustang Side Scoops and Front Grill.

Warning, I am not a professional at spraying cars, I am just using my car as a test while trying to make it look better. In this tutorial I will show you how I Plasti Dip my front grill and side scoops and how to carefully remove the side scoops and apart of the front grill.

Material Needed

  1. flat head screwdriver
  2. Philips screwdriver
  3. a can of Plasti Dip
  4. a rag or piece of cloth
  5. piece of card board or any other material to spray the scoops on
  6. Tape for the front grill. Try to find a tape that does not stick very well to the surface.

I found that if you use the green tape I did, it may lift the Plasti Dip. I am not sure if this was because it was not sprayed on properly of if it wasn't dried properly. In any case I am just giving a heads up.

Side scoops.
There are two ways to do this, one is to leave the scoops on the car and tape the area out before spraying, this is what I did the first time around. The better way is to remove the scoops from the car.

Scoops
  1. Remove the side scoops from the car. They are held on by 6 clips with tree on the left and three on the right. Use a flat head screwdriver, with a cloth to prevent the car paint from getting scratched, and the clips. Be gentle and try not to break the scoops they are delicate. Some of the clips may be left behind on the car, remove them and re install them on the scoop.
  2. Remove insert from side scoop for best spray results. They are held in place by four clips.

  3. After the scoops have been removed, clean them off and prep them for paint.
  4. Apply Plasti Dip by holding the can about six inches away from the scoop and moving your hand from left to right in an even motion. Do not try to spray all angles at one go, start with one angle such as the front and allow it to dry before doing another angle. Allow about 10 minutes drying time between coats. Coat it to your desired liking.
  5. After the scoops have dried re install them on the car before installing the insert in them.

Grill

I did the grill the short hand way, I did not remove it entirely.

  1. Ensure the grill is clean.
  2. Remove retaining clips for the grill using Philips screwdriver, there are for of them.
  3. Gently pull the grill forward, look behind the horse for two clips that hold the section of the grill that surrounds the horse. Remove both of them with a flat head screwdriver. Be careful not to loose them.
  4. Remove the section that surrounds the horse by placing the screwdriver in the gap between the grill and that section. Its held in place by seven clips.
  5. Spray the remainder of the grill, including the horse, gray.
  6. Spray the front part of the grill you took of red and let dry.
  7. Flip it over and place it on a flat surface and spray the inside gray. Using the flat surface will eliminate you having to tape out the red section from the gray.
  8. Let both grills dry then reassemble by doing steps one to four in reverse.
